Photos from first session at the Windup Space with Lucille Lingerhans von Spankenstein

Our first session at the Windup Space was freaking fantastic, as was the ever-fabulous Lucille Lingerhans von Spankenstein of Gilded Lily. 🙂 The space was stunning, and though Dionysus was awesome, we definitely have a lot more room to stretch our legs—and a stage!

North Ave, Baby Tattoo Books, and of course Russell at the Windup Space, who saved our bacon when Dionysus changed owners.

Even more thanks go to the beautiful Lucille; otherwise all of this would be pointless and we’d have just spent the evening watching Russell make drinks—which, though entertaining, Lucille’s outfits are much more fun. Thanks as always to Bill (who’s got some sketches up on his site) for helping shove tables around, keeping an eye on the door, and keeping out Crazy Pillow Lady (don’t ask), and Jeff for taking these photos . . .

As you can see, the turn out was pretty great—we’ll play with the seating set-up over the next few sessions to find the optimum layout, but it worked pretty well. Even so, keep in mind, the earlier you show up, the better seat you’ll get. (Doors are at 6.)

There were contests a-plenty, as usual—first, we invited our artists to take part in the customary opposite-hand drawing challenge. Then, in honor of the 40th anniversary of the moon landing, we had a “Lucille in Space” contest, in which nearly everyone participated.

The finalists, in a Dr. Sketchy’s Baltimore first, all came up to present their drawings:

If our memory serves us well (which it often does not), the lucky lady in the center won, and got to take home some pretty slick comic book pages from Atomic Books.

And here’s Brian Dugan’s winning entry for best incorporation of “Windup” in a sketch…

…which won him a copy of Ragnar’s Vernaculis from Baby Tattoo Books.

Viola Van Wilde tonight! Prizes!

Are you excited? We’re excited. It’s been waaaaay too long since the last Dr. Sketchy’s because of that whole Memorial Day conflict, but the wait is over, and not only is it over, it’s officially our one year anniversary!

We do NOT feel that old. It must be all that clean-living we’ve been doing.

The next contest probably had the funniest entries I’ve seen in a contest yet.

“Your version of Captain Kirk hitting on LiiLii.”

The one on the left reads, “Please James, you smell like a Ferringi.” He responds, “You remember I’m captain of the Enterprise, right?”

The one on the right reads, “You know, Miss, Red Shirts don’t live long in space. Perhaps you should remove it.”

We gave away Munnies from Atomic Books in Hampden, watercolors from Artist & Craftsman Supply on 137 W North Ave, and So Good for Little Bunnies from Baby Tattoo Books. Our next session is June 8th and we’re going to have all new stuff from everyone to give away. (Baby Tattoo sent a huge box of stuff….I’ll take a picture later this week and put it up later on in the week.)

Next session is June 8th with Viola Van Wilde of Gilded Lily! No Memorial Day session since we’ll all probably be drunk at someone’s barbecue somewhere.

So no Dr. S this coming Monday…..you know what you should do to make yourself feel better? You should go see Gilded Lily in The Nearly Naked Truth at Mobtown theater on Friday….half the folks who’ve ever modeled for us are in it, and frankly, it’s the best damn burlesque show we’ve seen them do yet. It’s FIFTEEN BUCKS. You know what this would cost in NYC? It would be THOUSANDS, and I swear this isn’t hyperbole, and I’ll call you a liar if you repeat this, but they’re a lot better than the couple shows I’ve managed to catch up there. Check’em out.

If you don’t know where Mobtown Theater is, it’s in Meadow Mill about two stops on the light rail up from MICA (the Woodberry stop…big building with a clock tower thing on it).
