Dr. Sketchy’s Baltimore featuring Orion St. Michael
Thursday, February 19 at Mobtown Ballroom
A livelier life drawing event, Dr. Sketchy’s is where artists of all levels draw fabulous burlesque and variety performers. Enjoy delicious cocktails and compete in zany drawing contests to win free drinks and other awesome prizes! We’ll start off with quick 1- and 2-minute gesture poses and gradually move up to 20-minute sketches. No drawing experience is necessary; just bring your own drawing materials—plus generous cash tips for our model—and join us for some fun figure sketching practice!
For this month’s Sketchy’s, we’re beyond excited to have the talented and gorgeous Orion St. Michael as our model/performer! In addition to posing for us, Orion has a very sparkly and spine-tingling sideshow performance in store for us. Here’s more about out February muse:
“Orion St. Michael is a Baltimore-based performer and humanitarian championing education, mental health, and safe spaces for youth. When he’s not serving his community, he lights up the DMV with cosplay, variety and burlesque performances, and the occasional flash of fire-eating/breathing spectacle. Orion lives for the moment when smiles break out and eyes go wide—because nothing excites him more than awakening wonder and emotions audiences didn’t even know they had.”
Come early to get the best seats and a drink—and even a delicious dinner—then stay after we wrap up to share your work with fellow artists over one last drink. As always, join in our crazy drawing contests for a chance to win some free booze and other neat prizes! No drawing experience is necessary—just remember to bring your own drawing materials, and be ready to generously tip our model!

A few things to know about our new venues!
Mobtown Ballroom & Café is at the corner of North and Maryland Avenues in the Station North Arts District. Parking around the venue is metered street parking, with the closest parking garage on Charles St. across from the Charles Theater, around four blocks away. Food is available for purchase at the venue, so no outside food, please. As always, we ask that you promptly clean any spills or messes that may happen while you work, but we’ll be stressing this since the venue has just been renovated with a beautiful new wood floor, which is why we are adding dip pens and drawing inks on the prohibited media list.
The Green Room at the Bluebird is on Hickory Avenue, just off the Avenue in Hampden. Parking is on-street only, with no garages nearby, unfortunately, though there is a pay-to-park lot behind Frazier’s (note: attendees who’ve used this lot have reported getting parking tickets despite having paid to park there, so maybe stick with street parking). Space is limited in this gorgeous and intimate venue, so we strongly recommend planning to bring a simple, compact drawing set-up—i.e., you should leave your ArtBins, large drawing boards, and pads bigger than 14×17 at home—and again, no messy media that could stain the tables or floor, and please promptly clean up any spills, crushed pastels/charcoal, etc. Like Mobtown, The Green Room offers a menu of delicious food, so outside food is not allowed. Show up early to grab a good seat and enjoy a pre-drawing dinner!
